The stage is set for a new hotel project to come to the Downtown River District in Fort Myers. Mainsail Development Group os a Tampa based company specializing in hotels and resort property management. Mainsail owns and operates hotels all over the Southeast in Florida and "we pride ourselves in finding unique lodging opportunities with a purpose" said Joe Collier, President of Mailsail.
The hotel and convention center has been on the city's radar for several years, but has failed to find a developer willing to build the hotel and manage the convention center till now. Mainsail is willing to start now and has given the City a $500k nonrefundable deposit to build and manage a 235-room, full service hotel, a parking structure and take over the management of the Harborside Convention Center.
Collier said "we will design and build a unique hotel that will be customized to enhance our charming and revitalized downtown Historic District. This hotel is going to be here forever so you want something that will stand out!"
Renovation has already begun on the Convention Center and plans are expected Mid-January for the hotel. When you consider that the convention business is a $120 billion dollar a year business, you can see how becoming a convention destination will really boost the local economy as well as property values!
