There is a new form of transportation headed for downtown Fort Myers and is aimed at reducing traffic and the demand for parking.
The City of Fort Myers is implementing the trolley and has sent out a survey to local business owners and people living in downtown."We didn't want to guess" says Don Paight, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency and "the survey has helped planners decide on the routes the trolleys will take and how many there will be."
There are many popular events in downtown like Art Walk and Music Walk where the streets are packed and many of the residents living in the adjacent high rise condos are thrilled that there will be a trolley. Now, they can leave their cars behind and be in downtown in minutes without the parking hassles. The trolley will also benefit many of the local businesses including popular new restaurants like Ford's Garage and the new Los Cabos Cantina.
The service will start on November 19th and be free of charge. The trolley will travel from Oasis Condominiums all the way to High Point Place on First Street and then to the Edison Fort Estates on McGregor Boulevard. The service will run from 11a.m. till 8p.m. Monday thru Thursday and from 11a.m. till 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday.
